RECLAIMED FURNITUREは時代や社会的背景により、進化していくモノづくりを念頭にAtMa inc.が継続的に取り組んでいるアップサイクルプロジェクトです。工場や倉庫などを訪れる度に、廃棄するしかない端材・廃材の山があるという現実を知ったことをきっかけに、それらの素材を集め再構築することで、テーブル、椅子、オブジェ等を制作しています。端材のみで構成することもあれば、金物などの異素材を加えることで強度を確保したり、加工したり、端材であることを活かした意図しない形状や予想外の素材の組み合わせに想像が膨らんでいきます。端材・廃材の素材が内包するそれぞれのストーリーをフラットに見つめる事と同時に、今までとは異なる角度の視点を持ち、新しい可能性、価値を見出すことで端材・廃材に新たな役割を取り戻していきます。この考え方や活動は私たちの基盤となり、今後も地域や社会の協力を得て続き、サーキュラーな家具や素材との関係を作ることを目指します。
RECLAIMED FURNITURE is an ongoing upcycle project aiming to embody a creation that evolves with the times and the social context by AtMa inc. Whenever we visited factories and warehouses, we became aware of the reality that there were piles of waste and off-cut materials that had to be discarded, which led us to collect and reconstruct these materials to create tables, chairs and objects. These furniture and objects are sometimes composed solely of waste materials, while other times other materials such as stainless steel are added to ensure strength, or unexpected combinations of materials and shapes are created by utilising them as waste materials. By looking without any preconceptions at the individual narratives that each waste material contains, new possibilities and values are discovered, and then each piece is given a new role to shine. This idea and practices have become our foundation and we would like to continue to create this process of connection with community and society and link it to a circular relationship with furniture and materials.
